    Maximilian

Maximilian is a Tennessee Walker that started his life at a very prominent show farm in Tennessee. He was shown and was very successful for an amateur but couldn’t produce in the Open events so was sold to a gentleman in Delaware for his daughter to trail ride. He kept Max for a couple of years but his daughter went off to college so he gave him to an employee. The new owners didn’t know anything about keeping a horse so they tied him to a tree with about 12 feet of rope and there he stood for 5 years. One day Max wore through his rope and got loose. He was loose for 2 days before his owner discovered he was gone. Max could not have been fed and watered every day if it took 2 days to figure out that he was gone, so he probably endured the winters without a blanket or shelter. Our wonderful farrier saw Max walking along the road and tried to catch him. Max stayed away from him for a while but finally gave into the bucket of grain he was carrying. He took the horse home and fed him and Max gained 300 pounds. The only thing he could not afford to do was to fix the weepy eye that he has which causes him constant pain. We are going to take him to see Dr. Riddle tomorrow to see what it will take to fix it. The rescue cannot afford to fix it so the fee will be coming out of our pockets. In light of this, I am asking that you forward this onto your friends and possibly help us out. If everyone could donate as little as $5.00, we could get enough to put Max well on his way to recovery..

    Rescued Horses

    Star

Star came to us in June 2008 from the Humane Society. She is a 20-year old quarter horse from Pond Town MD. She was really weak when she came in and wouldn't eat. After hand feeding her, she started to come around and had a good appetite. We saw a spark in her eye after her first bath. She is good around the kids but doesn't have a lot of trust yet.

Anthem Anthem arrived from New York City muzzled, in poor condition, and very wary of people. Anthem’s ribs were clearly visible. Anthem has gained a considerable amount of weight after dietary adjustments and loves to be outside with other horses. His feet are very sensitive and the biggest challenge with Anthem is keeping his tender feet healthy. With the proper care he has been back under saddle and just beautiful to watch in the ring. He is a smooth mover under saddle and is all business as soon as the bridle is on. He has even come to like and trust his handlers. Anthem has been placed locally with a family who loves him and will give this city horse a second life in the rural country of Maryland’s Eastern Shore.
Rosie Rosie was brought into the rescue as a foal, just 6 months old. Her owners became unable to care for her and she was left to fend for herself in a rear pasture, where she quickly went downhill from lack of proper nourishment. Seriously underweight, Rosie has been in the rescue program for over 2 years. She is still green and just beginning the “breaking” process to accept saddle and bridle. Rosie is still looking for the right family to adopt her and complete the promised second chance that rescue has provided.
Smoke Smoke is a local horse who had won numerous awards in his younger years.  As he aged Smoke was leased out and eventually his owners were lost track of as he was “passed on” to the next caretaker. Smoke was underweight and unable to chew his hay completely when he first arrived. After dietary changes and a dental visit, Smoke could chew his food properly and began to gain weight. Smoke comes in periodically from the pasture for more frequent meals and is now his full weight. Now 30 years old and affectionately known as “Old Man,” Smoke has become the consummate gentleman. He is calm and manageable under saddle for even the youngest rider. “Old Man” is much loved by the many children who regularly ride at the stable and loves to be groomed and fussed over. Due to his advanced age, Smoke has been difficult to place and is still looking for the right owner.
